As for the Republican primary, I'd like to reiterate that to most Republicans inside Utah didn't see Bennett as a RINO either. Unfortunately the hard hard right are the most politically active and dominate the early stages. They are both beholden to the state legislative goons who put them in this position.

You're right that there was little to no Republican crossover, especially in SC-01 where there was a nine-way Republican primary. I have no explanation. We made these graphs during the 2008 primary election season, and one thing we noticed was that South Carolina ("SC") is in the middle of the pack among Democrats and among Republicans, but it's one of the most conservative states overall. . I find it interesting that my adopted home state of Utah, widely considered to be right up there with Oklahoma and Mississippi in the contest for "reddest state," is actually pretty much in the center of gravity, politically.
